How to make a beaded freeform wire crochet necklace
Since I couldn't find any instructions anywhere. There is some good advice focussing on the neater sort of wire crochet (which is completely beyond me) at How to with Wire. Before you start you need beading wire (From a craft shop), a range of beads in complementary colours, and a basic knowledge of crochet. I used 26 gauge cheap silver-coloured wire which has since gone all rusty :(
Instructions
First string the beads onto the wire, adding extra so you don't run out. I later realised a good way is to put them all in container and take 'em one by one from that, not choosing them individually from each colour in turn. Oh well.

Crochet. Add a bead every time you yarn over (including foundation chain). My method is:
|
It still looked too uneven and beadless, so I mussed up some of the loops and wove through a piece of wire with extra largerish beads on it. Then I added chain stitch to each side to make it necklace length and turned one into a loop, the other into a hook. Done! Another way of finishing wire chokers is described here.

Other examples
- this bracelet in 28 gauge silver wire with more large beads. Notice the difference to the 26 gauge above, the thinner wire going neat(ish) and flat beneath the beads rather than forming a semi-random mass around them.
- my first ever attempt at wire crochet, though I think the photo is better than the jewelry. The same 26-guage cheap stuff as above.
- Bracelet with blue wire and beads Pretty, but the wire broke and scratched too easily. Another idea is contrasting coloured wire and beads.
